Women’s Lacrosse Falls at Loyola in Season Finale

BALTIMORE – Freshman Izzy McMahon led the Army West Point women's lacrosse team with four goals during an 18-7 Patriot League setback at Loyola to close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon at the Ridley Athletic Complex.
Army finishes its inaugural varsity campaign 5-12 overall and 0-9 in the league, while Loyola, which is receiving votes in the Inside Lacrosse national poll, ends the regular season 12-5 and 9-0 and will enter next week's Patriot League Tournament as the No. 1 seed.
McMahon's four goals matched her season high that she established against American on April 16. Junior Erin Jollota and freshmen Manuela Cortes and Kelsea Krauss also provided tallies for the Black Knights.
Sophomore Amy Johnston collected seven draw controls and freshman Kayla Rowley made eight saves in 49:17 of action.
Maddy Blakeman finished with a game-high seven points on four goals and three assists for Loyola, while Shannon Aikens added four goals and a pair of assists.
McMahon netted Army's first marker of the afternoon with 13:46 remaining in the first half to bring the Black Knights back to a 7-1 deficit and Cortes converted a free-position shot with 10:32 left in the period to give the visitors their second straight tally and make the score 7-2.
McMahon added a second goal 2:06 later to bring the score to 8-3, after Loyola received a marker from Shannon Aikens at the 9:58 mark of the half.
For the second week in a row, freshman Delanie Weliver made an appearance in goal, playing 10:43 of reserve duty.
Army tallied four of the game's final six goals, including a stretch of three in a row. Jollota kicked off the scoring run with a marker at the 17:17 point of the second half before Megan Boepple found the back of the net for the hosts, as Loyola moved to a 17-4 advantage.
McMahon answered back with consecutive goals over a period of 45 seconds and Krauss added a goal with 4:57 remaining in the contest.
Blakeman scored the game's final goal with 1:56 on the clock on an assist from Sabrina Tabasso.
