Men’s Rugby Opens Varsity Cup on Senior Day

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's rugby team is set to kick off the 2016 Penn Mutual Varsity Cup by hosting Oklahoma on Saturday, April 9, at 3 p.m. from Anderson Rugby Complex. The Black Knights will honor their 16 seniors prior to the match.

Army concluded its regular season with a thrilling 27-22 victory over its service academy rival Navy on March 26 in Annapolis, Md. Sophomore Jake Lachina led the offensive charge in the match, scoring a program-record four tries and 20 points.
The Black Knights went 3-1 in the spring, bringing their overall record for the season to 8-4. Other wins in the spring came in the home-opener against Dartmouth and in the final game of the two-game road trip to Utah. Army used a second-half comeback to upset the then fifth-ranked Utes, 29-26.
Oklahoma comes into the match with a record of 13-3, while going 5-1 in the Red River conference. The Sooners' lone loss came at the hands of LSU on Feb. 20.
