Women’s Tennis Drops Match Versus Boston U

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team fell to Boston University 7-0 earlier today at home. The loss puts the Black Knights at 17-5 and 3-1 in the Patriot League while the Terriers improve to 8-7 this spring and 3-0 in conference.
A number of Cadets put up close finishes. Freshman Rugile Valuniate took Lauren Davis into a third set in the second singles flight. Valuniate took the first set 6-3 before Davis rebounded for a 7-5 second set win. The third set went down to the wire with Davis ultimately winning 10-7.
Freshman Kirby Einck also entered a third set in the number five slot. Her 4-6, 6-2, 10-3 loss was her first since February 13 against Massachusetts, ending a streak of 10-straight singles wins.
All three doubles teams for Army lost by just two games. The pairing of Einck and senior Carolyn Pitman lost for the first time this spring by the score of 6-4. The two had won their first 13 matches of 2016 together. For Pitman, it was her first loss in doubles since September 25.
The Black Knights will look to rebound tomorrow as they host Bucknell on Senior Day. Seniors Haley O'Connor, Pitman, Gabriella Spindler, and Eva Sung will all be honored before the match with the ceremony beginning at 9:50 a.m.
