Day Two Results
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Army West Point men's track and field team finished up its second day at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday night. Two performances for the Black Knights were good enough to advance to the finals on Sunday.
"This meet is a step up in competition for our people and I thought that our people rose to the challenge for the most part," said Director of Track and Field and Cross Country Mike Smith.
4x100 Meter Relay ran the second-fastest preliminary time crossing the line in 40.22. Junior Jose Santana, freshmen Ben Sims and Kevin Dyer, and sophomore Tyler Davis continue to run well as a group and our poised for a potential ECAC/IC4A title tomorrow.
Junior Trevor Touchton qualified for the 800 Meter Run final. He posted the second-best time in the event at 1:50.35.
"Touchton and our 4x100 relay did a nice job," said Smith. "Trevor hasa been in the hunt to win every race that he has run this year and today was more of the same. The 4x100 guys ran a very nice, technical race. The guys will have to execute again tomorrow for us to have a chance to win."
Santana missed on the finals in the 200 Meter Dash after posting a preliminary time of 21.58, missing the cut by less than a tenth of a second.
Senior Tom Girardot added a 10th-place finish in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase (9:02.53) and was within four seconds of placing in the top eight and scoring points for Army. Sophomore Lee Bares added a fifth-place finish in the pole vault (5.00 meters) among 16 competitors.
