Rifle Defeats Akron

PALMYRA, Pa. - No. 12 Army West Point's rifle team enjoyed a banner day on Sunday starting with a GARC defeat of No. 16 Akron (4655-4594) in a dual match held in conjunction with the annual Palmyra Tournament where the Cadets took second behind seventh-ranked Alaska Fairbanks. The Black Knights (4-6) then put the finishing touches on the day claiming the NRA Sectionals after winning the Open Team competition.

AGGREGATE (4655)
- The Black Knights tallied an aggregate score of 4655, only 11 points behind the leaders Alaska Fairbanks.
- The top scoring Cadet was Marvin Lewis who pulled together a score of 1172, only four points behind the leader.
- Lewis was followed by Danielle Cuomo who shot 1166.
SMALLBORE (2303)
- Army had two athletes on the podium for Smallbore. Lewis placed second and Cuomo placed third both tallying 579 points.
- Payne Nunn was the next Black Knight, coming in 14 shooting 572.
- Allen Solida (568) and Mike Garner (568) round out the scores for Army.
AIR RIFLE (2352)
- Lewis was the top scorer yet again in Air Rifle placing second with a score of 593.
- Madeline Erikson (588) and Cuomo (587) where the next Cadet-athletes in the top 15 placing ninth and tenth, respectfully.
- Nunn and Nathan Brewer round out the scoring tallying 584 and 583 points, respectfully.
