Army Shines in AR In NCAA Qualifier

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point rifle team set a season high 2360 in air rifle as the Black Knights closed out their regular season firing against University of the Sciences in their NCAA Qualifier match Saturday at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.
Army shot its third highest aggregate score of the season in topping the Devils 4669-4328 behind a 2309 mark in smallbore and 2360 in air rifle to level its season mark at 6-6. Yearling Nathan Brewer set a career 593 in air rifle to tie for a team best in that discipline, and classmate Payne Nunn was the top shooter in smallbore with a 582. Firstie Marvin Lewis was second in both disciplines with a 592 in air rifle and 581 smallbore mark.
It was also Senior Day for firsties Danielle Cuomo, Marvin Lewis, Libby Mostert and Allen Solida.

If No. 12 Army fails short of an NCAA berth, head coach Web Wright feels three or four Black Knights could qualify individually.
LOOKING AHEAD:

HOW IT HAPPENED SMALLBORE (2309-2153):
- Though it was not Army's highest score of the season, the Black Knights dominated as they swept the first 10 places in outpointing USP 2309-2153.
- Nunn won for the second time this season posting a 582 equaling his second highest mark of the season in this discipline.
- Lewis was a point behind with a 581 with Brewer (574) and firstie Danielle Cuomo (572) rounding out Army's scoring contingent. .
- Firstie Allen Solida posted a 571 followed by cows Ethan Cook (570) and Michael Garner (567) in rounding out fifth through seventh spots.
- Plebes Madeline Erikson and Emiliano Concha-Toro, along with firstie Libby Mostert fired identical 566s in rounding out Army's top 10 place setters.
HOW IT HAPPENED AIR RIFLE (2,360-2,175):
- The Black Knights dominated air rifle as they broke their previous mark by six points in breaking their score of 2354 set against West Virginia during the fall.
- Brewer's career high 593 earned the yearling first-place honors for the second time this season after nipping his former mark of 592 set at the President's Trophy Match in the fall. It is the fourth time this season he has fired in the 590 range.
- Lewis finished a point behind with a 592, just one point off his career high.
- Nunn was third (588) and Cuomo fourth (587) in rounding out Army's four-man firing unit.
- Erikson and Ehmann shared fifth place with 586s, Concha-Toro was seventh (585), Mostert (583) eighth with Lichtenthal and Kanellis sharing ninth behind 582s
HOW IT HAPPENED AGGREGATE:
- Lewis led the field with an 1173, Brewer was second (1167) and Nunn third (1170).
