Black Knights Host Invite to Open Season

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point volleyball makes its season debut Aug. 25 when the Cadets host St. Francis Brooklyn, Central Michigan and Hartford for the Black Knights Invitational at Gillis Field House.

ARMY (0-0, 0-0 Patriot League)

The Black Knights were chosen second in the Patriot League Preseason Poll which was announced by the league on Wednesday.
Middle blocker Carolyn Bockrath was also voted onto the Preseason All-Patriot League team for the second consecutive season.
Friday evening the Academy will begin the celebrations of Ring Weekend. The seven firsties will be receiving their class rings in the historic ceremony prior to Army's first game. The event commemorates the Firsties' academic careers as they enter their final year at West Point.
Army and Central Michigan will face each other for the first time in program history Saturday afternoon. It will be the 22nd meeting between the Black Knights and Hartford and the 16th for Army and the Terriers.

The Terriers capped last year with a 9-21 showing and a 4-10 record in the North East Conference.
St. Francis Brooklyn welcomes four freshmen to the squad and features a roster with five players over six foot.
The Terriers closed out the 2016 season with a senior day win (3-2) over St. Francis University.
Wies Hurkmans returns to the squad after being second in scoring last year. The sophomore averaged 0.84 kills per set.

The Chippewas were chosen fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Conference Western Division preseason coach's poll.
Jordan Bueter was selected to the preseason West All-MAC Team, and earned First Team All-MAC honors last season when she led CMU with 367 kills and 53 aces.
CMU is in its second year under head coach Mike Gawlik.

HARTFORD (0-0, 0-0 A-10)

Hartford finished the 2016 season with a record of 6-20.
The Hawks and Black Knights faced off last season at the Dartmouth Tournament with Army coming out on top, 3-0.
Allie Strong and Vanessa Wesley both scored double-digit kills in the match, while Sydney Morriss led the team with a .364 hitting percentage.
