CHICAGO, Ill. – After falling behind 1-0 to DePaul Friday night, the Army West Point volleyball team bounced back to win the final three sets and the match 3-1 in game one of the DePaul Invitational. Â

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND MATCH NOTES
- The Black Knights took down the Blue Demons, a BIG EAST opponent, for the first time in program history.
- Amber Clay posted a double-double on the night with a team-leading 15 kills and 13 digs.
- Nikki Lum recorded 32 assists in the victory, seven digs and two kills, while Haven Bethune dished out 16 helpers.
- Rachel Gearon added 14 kills for Army and had a .370 hitting percentage.
- Ellie Petersen stepped up big for the Black Knights with 10 digs and added a service ace.
- The Black Knights improve to 5-3 on the year, while DePaul falls to 2-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Blue Demons took an early lead in set one and finished things off on a 5-2 run. DePaul claimed the first set 25-17, but Army came back strong halfway through the second set to even the score at 1-1.
- Things started clicking for the Cadets midway through set two when they tied it up at 13-all and eventually claimed the lead off a 6-1 run.
- A timeout by the Blue Demons helped them snap the streak, but Army maintained composure and finished out the set with the final three points to take the set 25-20.
- After trailing in the third set, the Black Knights tied for four straight points at 15, 16, 17 and 18.
- Army was finally able to pull away and reach the 20-point mark first, and took away the final five of the last seven points to gain a 2-1 advantage.
- The Black Knights continued on the momentum from the previous two sets to claim the third 25-20.
TURNING POINT
- Army's spark in the second set propelled the Cadets to win back-to-back-to-back sets and the match.
UP NEXT
- Army continues at the DePaul Invitational with two matches on Saturday. The Black Knights will face off against Northwestern (1 p.m. ET) and Milwaukee (6 p.m. ET).
