HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. – The Army West Point wrestling team returned from the holidays by ranking 6th with 52.0 points after the first day of the Midlands Championships, hosted by Northwestern at the Sears Centre Arena on Saturday.

Senior Rocco Caywood, the sixth-ranked 197-pounder in the nation, was the lone Black Knight to advance to the semifinals, while Corey Shie, Lucas Weiland, Ben Harvey, Alex Hopkins and Bobby Heald all advanced to the second day of competition.

As a team, the Black Knights compiled a 32-25 record with eight falls, three technical falls and five major decisions.

Iowa currently leads the team race with 114.5 points, followed by Northern Iowa's 76.0. Wisconsin ranks third with 69.5 points, while Northwestern (68.5 points) and Princeton (62.0) round out the top-five.

Head Coach Kevin Ward – "I thought we had a decent day, but not spectacular. We left a lot of points out on the mat today. We put ourselves in position for some big wins, and we got some, but we need more. I'm looking to see our guys put themselves in position to win big matches and finish the job. That's the biggest thing: needing to finish big matches.
"We have guys that can compete with anyone in the country, they just need to wrestle complete matches and not have mental lapses that cost them. We've got to get better there."
