WEST POINT, NY – The Army West Point men's track and field team competed in the Ben Brown and the Occidental Distance Carnival on Saturday.
At the Ben Brown Invitational, the team scored 236 points which was good for first place.
COACH'S QUOTES:
"Our purpose in coming out to California for spring break is to get in some good training and combine it with some early season competition," said head coach Mike Smith. "It is especially important for our relays and the long throws that they get some repetitions for those events that we don't do indoors. It was nice to finally see the hammer, discus, javelin people get to show what they can do."
"Across the board we had some strong opening marks from our men and women today and some huge personal improvements."
"Our javelin guys were impressive. I don't know if we have had a group as good as this group before. Both hammer throw groups were also pretty solid. They will get lots of repetitions this week and that will translate into even better marks in the future."
"We also had some nice marks on the track in all the events. We have a lot to work on for sure but we looked good today and the practice time we have coming up next week will set us up well for the rest of the season."
