STATESBORO, Ga. – Led by team captain Nick Turner and James McKee, the Army West Point golf team finished round one of the Schenkel Invitational in 11th place.
The Black Knights ended up with a team score of 296 (+8) on the first day of the three-day event. The College of Charleston and Mississippi State share the lead after the opening round with both squads firing a 283 (-5) score.

Army will tee off tomorrow morning for the second round of the Schenkel Invitational at the Forest Heights Country Club.
STATESBORO, Ga. – Led by team captain Nick Turner and James McKee, the Army West Point golf team finished round one of the Schenkel Invitational in 11th place.
The Black Knights ended up with a team score of 296 (+8) on the first day of the three-day event. The College of Charleston and Mississippi State share the lead after the opening round with both squads firing a 283 (-5) score.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
- James McKee played his best round of the season and sits in a tie for 15th-place on the leaderboard.
- He played the first nine holes at 1-over and then made the turn and posted a 1-under second nine, including an eagle on the par-5 16th to get into negative numbers on the final nine.
- McKee put up a birdie as well during his round to offset a few bogeys.
- Team captain Nick Turner finished with an even par round of 72 as well with birdies in two of his final three holes, including 18, and is also in 15th place.
- He recovered from two bogeys in the early part of his final nine holes of the round.
- Matt Plunkett birdied four of the last nine holes and ended his round with a 76 to be 4-over.
- Justin Williamson also carded a 76 as he was 3-over through the first nine and then ended up 1-over after the turn.
- Mississippi State's Peng Pichaikool is the individual leader after day one with a 6-under 66 after hitting birdies in five of six holes while making the turn and then eagled the 18th to take a two-stroke lead over College of Charleston's Logan Sowell.
