WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point golf team put together a strong effort at the West Point Golf Course this weekend, taking a 2.5-1.5 lead after Saturday's four-ball competition before ultimately falling to Navy, 6.5-4.5, in the Army-Navy Star Series presented by USAA.
The Black Knights entered Sunday's singles session with momentum after securing two victories and a halved match during four-ball play. The duo of Drew Jeffords and Jack Parel earned a 3&2 victory over Navy's Timmy Luckett and Danny Auffant, while Tyson Sparks and Matthew Duke matched that result with a 3&2 win over Hudson Mitchell and Josh Durthaler. William Huang and Grant Paolucci contributed a valuable half-point after halving their match against Collin Alstrin and Sebastian Alonzo.
Army carried a one-point advantage into Sunday's singles matches and received standout performances from Andre Chang and Tyson Sparks.
Chang delivered the Black Knights' largest singles victory of the day, defeating Danny Auffant by a 5&4 margin. Sparks added another point for Army with a 3&1 victory over Payton Cowhey.
Despite the strong showing from Chang and Sparks, Navy was able to claim five of the seven singles matches to secure the overall victory.
