Women’s Soccer Rallies Back for First Win of 2019

WEST POINT, N.Y. — Fueled by three unanswered goals in the final 23 minutes of play, the Army West Point women's soccer team rallied back to defeat Albany, 3-2, in the 89th minute, marking the team and Academy's first win of the 2019-20 year.
Freshmen Elise Urkov and Alyssa Carfagno had breakout performances on the night as the team's goal scorers.
Urkov netted Army's first goal and the equalizer spaced 11 minutes apart. Carfagno scored the game-winner in the 89th minute.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Albany went up 2-0 with goals in the 28th and 66th minute.
- The Black Knights sparked a momentum shift three minutes later when Sydney Cassalia took advantage of a goal kick and booted the ball down to an open Urkov for the score.
- Lauren Drysdale and Morgan Walsh setup Urkov's second goal which was a chip to the left side of the net.
- With 1:16 remaining in the game, Erynn Johns sailed the ball to the far post where Dani Mendoza was able to move it in front to Carfagno. She stormed in and kicked the ball in to the goal to secure Army's first victory of the season.
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- The Black Knights improve to 1-1-1 on the year, while Albany falls to 0-3-0.
- Army holds an 11-1-1 all-time advantage over the Great Danes.
- Urkov finished the game with two goals, while Carfagno tallied one which was also the game-winner.
- Urkov, Carfagno and Mendoza all picked up their first-career points in tonight's match.
- Cassalia improved her career assist count to three after her performance.
- The senior captain also made two saves in the game.
- Johns posted her sixth-career assist and now totals 11 points in her three years.
- Drysdale and Urkov lead the Black Knights with four points this season, while Johns has three and Carfagno two.
- Jasmine Colbert scored both of Albany's goals and a pair of assists were awarded to Christina Cernuto.
