WEST POINT, N.Y. — Outshooting Hudson Valley rival Marist 20-5, the Army West Point women's soccer team triumphed 1-0 over the Red Foxes on Wednesday night.
Sydney Cassalia secured her second clean sheet of the season with two saves as Alyssa Carfagno netted the Cadets' game-winning goal.
The Black Knights produced multiple scoring opportunities throughout the game, but the solo score in the 68th minute proved to be all it took to triumph over Marist.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Morgan Walsh initiated the Army goal with a throw in on the right side of the field.
- Trinity Garay headed the ball through a pair of Marist defenders to connect with Carfagno who chipped it in to the net, high on the left side during the 68th minute of play at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field.
HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
- Army improves 3-3-2 on the year and boasts a 3-1-2 mark at home.
- Marist falls so 3-5-0 with tonight's deficit.
- The Black Knights increase their winning streak over the Red Foxes to five-straight dating back to 2008.
- Army is now 15-2-0 all-time against Marist.
- Cassalia's career shutout total rises to 18. She remains fifth in Cadet standings and is one shutout away from being tied for fourth all-time.
- Carfagno scored her third goal of the season and increases her point total on the year to six.
- The freshman is tied for first on the team in goals (3) and points (6) alongside Elise Urkov.
- Walsh is tied for third on the team in points with five after her assist tonight. It was the junior's third helper of the season.
- Garay increased her point total to two and now has a pair of assists.
