WEST POINT, N.Y. – The No. 12 Army West Point rifle team defeated GARC opponent No. 13 NC State, 4649-4638, Saturday at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.

Junior captain Kaitlyn Kutz posted the match's highest aggregate score on the afternoon with a mark of 1175. Close behind her was junior co-captain Clayton Hanson, who had a total score of 1170.

"Clayton had a fantastic start today. Kaitlyn shot good in prone," Army head coach Web Wright said. "And a couple of the second relay shooters put some impressive personal bests forward. I hope it lights a bit of a fire for the starters."

Army topped NC State, 2304-2296, in smallbore and edged the Wolfpack, 2345-2342, in air rifle.

"We came away with a win, but we are capable of a much bigger score," Wright added. "Our sling positions were a little weak. We lose too many points in kneeling and prone. So, that's what we will work on next week."

AGGREGATE: Army 4649, NC State 4638

Kutz and Hanson claimed the top two aggregate scores for the Cadets.
Lauren McMahan earned the next highest score with a combined mark of 1152. Nicholas Cheshire's 1150 and Sawyer Williams' 1146 were Army's next highest totals.
Emily Fisher claimed the Wolfpack's highest score with a tally of 1162

AIR RIFLE: Army 2345, NC State 2342

Kutz posted the match's high score with a mark of 592, which represents her second highest score in air rifle this season.
Hanson posted Army's next highest mark with a tally of 586.
McMahan was the team's next scorer with a total of 585, while Cheshire (582) and Sawyer Williams (577) rounded out the scoring.
Freshman Emily Gay posted a mark of 586, while classmate Emily Clegg shot a 583. Both tallies represent season highs for the duo that was on the second relay squad.
NC State's Aliya Butt had her team's highest score with a mark of 588. Right behind her were Addy Burrow and Zach Eisenburg, who each shot tallies of 587.

SMALLBORE: Army 2304, NC State 2296

Hanson's 584 in smallbore was the highest mark on the team, while Kutz finished right behind him with a season-high score of 583.
Emily Fisher posted the highest score for NC State, shooting a 577.
Rounding out the scoring for Army were Aaron Flowers (569), Cheshire (568) and McMahan (567).
On the second relay team, Williams matched his season high with a mark of 569.
