DORADO BEACH, Puerto Rico – The Army West Point golf team kicked off its spring season on Sunday down at TPC Dorado and finished the first round with a 1-over as a team.

The Black Knights are in eighth place and are ahead of No. 6 Notre Dame, Indiana, Michigan State, Boston College, Georgia State, Kentucky and Coastal Carolina. Louisville, the 21st-ranked team in the nation, has a big lead at the top at 19-under with Kansas in second at 12-under.

TOURNAMENT NOTES

Tom Katsenes was Army's top golfer of the day and sits in a tie for 15th on the individual leaderboard with a 2-under 70 in the first round.
Katsenes finished with three birdies and only one bogey in his round.
James McKee was consistent during his first round of the spring with a 1-under 71 on Sunday.
He birdied his final hole to join the group in 26th place on the player leaderboard.
Samuel Kim rebounded from a tough stretch in the middle of his round and carded three birdies in his final five holes to score a 1-over 73.
Justin Williamson recorded an opening round 75 for 3-over, while Gary Bullard ended up at 4-over for the first 18.
