Women's Tennis Shuts Down Wagner and Marist

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army women's tennis picked up their 10^th and 11^th win of the season Friday afternoon in dominating fashion, sweeping both Wagner and Marist 7-0. The Black Knights have a quick turnaround as they are set to host Quinnipiac University tomorrow, Feb. 29 at 1 p.m.

MATCH 1: Army 7, Wagner 0

The Wagner Seahawks put the Black Knights to the test right off the bat, forcing the final decision to come down to the third matchup. Despite a quick setback in a 6-0 loss by Sophia Suri and Bridget Mayfield, Paola Bou and Sophie McKenzie reversed the roles on court two with a lights out 6-1 win to put the match at one a piece. In the No. 1 meeting, Ana Joyner and Sam DiMaio held down the fort, securing a doubles win for the Black Knights in a tight 6-4 decision, ultimately giving the team the momentum they needed heading into singles play.

Singles action got off to a hot start with quick wins by freshman McKinnley Smith in the No. 5 bout (6-1, 6-0) followed by a shutout from McKenzie in the four spot with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Emma Reeves. Abi Waldman locked in the clinching point for the Black Knights in a 6-1, 6-2 win over Melanie Post. With a win under their belt, Joyner, Bou and DiMaio sealed the deal on the shutout with wins of their own,

Friday's efforts came as a result of a full team effort with a number of different athletes making an appearance against the Red Foxes. This time around the Black Knights grabbed the doubles decision by force with a win in each of the three matchups. Stephanie Dolehide and Caroline Vincent started things off with a 6-1 score over Julia Gabay and Sam Galu. The No. 2 and No. 3 pairs of Hannah Boubel/Sasha Inchauste and Elizabeth Gilbert/Danna Funaro then added a pair of 6-2 wins each to earn the doubles point.

In singles play, MaryJo Pidgeon earned a two-set victory over Amy Galloway 6-3, 6-0 while a 6-3, 6-2 win from Boubel and 6-3, 6-3 capped off a pair of wins for the Black Knights on the night.
