BETHLEHEM, Pa. – A goal scored in the 80th minute proved to be the difference-maker in Wednesday night's game between the Army West Point women's soccer team and Lafayette, as it lifted the Leopards past the Black Knights to a 1-0 result.
The strike came after a relatively quiet 79 minutes of action at Oaks Stadium, with only 12 combined shots having been taken by the two teams up until that point.
Army had control of the ball initially, firing off one shot and earning three corner kicks within the opening 10 minutes. After the initial pressure from the Black Knights, the Leopards began to tighten up their back line and were able to limit the Cadets to just five looks by the halftime break.
On the other side of the field, Lafayette was unable to get any shots off in the opening stanza. The Leopards had their first look in the 57th minute of action, though keeper Sage Strohman did not have to make a stop as it went wide.
Coming out of the intermission, both Trinity Garay and Lauren Drysdale notched on-frame attempts for the visiting team but neither was able to get anything past the Lafayette keeper. The Leopards eventually broke up the back-and-forth action with the unassisted goal and though Army responded with a corner kick and a shot on-goal from Emma Richey, the home team held on for the victory.
Inside the Box Score
- Trinity Garay fired off a team-high three shots during the contest. In total, she was one of six Cadets to create a chance at the net.

- Army earned a 15-0 advantage in corner kicks.
- Through 90 minutes, the teams were knotted up in shot on-goal at three apiece though Army held an 8-5 edge in overall looks.
