Leaving Home
- Army enters the weekend with a dominant, 4-1 mark at home.
- In total, the Cadets have outscored this year's visitors 232-146 and have limited opponents to 10-points-or-less on two separate occasions, most recently doing so during the victory over Bucknell (63-10, Nov. 13).
- This year's home stint has been highlighted by a game against No. 15/16 Wake Forest that was played in front of a sold-out crowd.
- Though Army dropped a 70-56 result to the Demon Deacons, the teams combined to shatter the single-game scoring record at Michie Stadium, which previously stood at 111 points from a win over Louisville in 1999.
Class of 2022
- Prior to the start of Saturday's game, head coach Jeff Monken and his staff will honor the Class of 2022 as part of the team's senior day festivities.
- The group features three of the team's four team captains in defensive back Cedrick Cunningham Jr., linebacker Arik Smith and defensive lineman Nolan Cockrill.
- This class will go down as one of the best in Army Football history, having led the team to a 31-16 mark so far with two Commander-in-Chief Trophies (2018, 2020) and an Armed Forces Bowl victory over Houston in 2018.
- Having already defeated Air Force this year, the Class of 2022 will look to close out its tenure as CIC Champions once again when it lines up alongside the rest of its teammates on Dec. 11 in the Army-Navy Game, presented by USAA.
Mission Accomplished
- With last weekend's defeat of Bucknell, Army Football became Bowl Game eligible for the fifth time in six years.
- Having secured a berth in 2020 as well, it marks the first time that the team is eligible in back-to-back seasons since 2017-18.Â
- Both of the 2017 and 2018 seasons ended with a Bowl win. The 2017 squad defeated San Diego State by a score of 42-35 in the Lockheed Martin Armed Forces Bowl, while the 2018 Army football team earned a 70-14 victory over Houston in the same Bowl.
- Having won three of its past postseason appearances, the team will wait to hear which of the ESPN Events Bowl Games it will compete in.
Series History
- Army and UMass are set to meet for the fourth time in their shared history, which dates back to 1977.
- The Black Knights have claimed each of the three previous meetings and have earned a 131-44 advantage in scoring.
- On Saturday, the home team will look to hold UMass to 10 points or less for the third time.
- The Cadets earned a huge victory in the last game between the two sides, as an unstoppable rushing attack helped the team earn a 63-7 result.
- Seven different players found pay dirt in the contest that saw Army outgain its visitors 546-125. Jabari Laws led the team with 140 yards gained and found the end zone once, while Arik Smith paced the defense with five tackles.
- Army's 2019 victory over UMass kicked of the team's historic, 13-game winning streak at Michie Stadium. Once the fifth-longest active home winning streak in the nation, it came to an end earlier this season when the Black Knights dropped a game to No. 15/16 Wake Forest (Oct. 23).
Scouting the Minutemen
- UMass makes the trip to West Point with the hope of snapping its four-game losing streak.
- A win would be the team's first since defeating UConn 27-13 on Oct. 9. Since then, the Minutemen have dropped results to Florida State (59-3), Liberty (62-17), Rhode Island (35-33) and Maine (35-10).
- Quarterback Brady Olson is having a breakout rookie season, having recorded 1,145 passing yards with eight touchdowns.
- He is the first Minuteman to surpass the 1,000-yard mark since Ross Comis (1799) and Andrew Ford (1366) achieved the feat in 2018 and has thrown a touchdown pass in two of his last three outings.
- Linebacker Gerrell Johnson is also having an exciting rookie season, as his 62.0 tackles are the second-most on the team.
- The Florida native has forced a team-best three fumbles, recovered two and is credited with one pass breakup. He recorded his first sack of the year during the game at Toledo and assisted on a season-best seven tackles during the outing.
- The outing at West Point marks the team's penultimate game in 2021. Following the action, the Minutemen will remain on the road for their regular season finale at New Mexico State on Saturday, Nov. 27.
