March 10, 2021 | Wrestling
WEST POINT, N.Y. -Â The NCAA released the list of at-large selections to the 2021 NCAA Championship tournament on Tuesday afternoon and the Black Knights received one of four additional EIWAÂ bids. Army's 157lb veteran Markus Hartman was selected for an at-large bid to join the six other Black Knights who will be making the trip to St. Louis, Missouri next week.Â
This will be Hartman's first appearance at the NCAA tournament and his second opportunity on the national stage after last seasons cancellation. With Hartman's selection, the Black Knights will officially send seven to the Enterprise Center on Mar. 18 including Lane Peters, P.J. Ogunsanya, Ben Pasiuk, Taylor Brown, J.T. Brown and Bobby Heald. All seven wrestlers headed to NCAA's will be making their first appearance at the national tournament. This will be the third consecutive season that Army will send seven wrestlers to the tournament and the only time the team has sent more than seven was in the 1967-1968 season when they sent eight.
The Black Knights are coming off a successful outing at the 117th EIWA conference tournament where their 119.5 team points secured their second consecutive third-place finish and their second-best team finish in program history, surpassing their 2020 finish of 112 points. Ogunsanya and Pasiuk will make their first collegiate appearances at the tournament after becoming the first two Army wrestlers in over a decade to be named champions at the conference tournament.
