Golf Takes Lead in Star Match on Saturday

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point golf team took the early advantage in its Star match against Navy and heads into Sunday's singles play with a 3.5-0.5 lead in the Star Series, presented by USAA.

The Black Knights took the first lead of the match with Tom Katsenes and James Earl Ballato winning their match over Navy's Chad Deegan and Will Meshad at 4 and 3. Katsenes and Ballato got out to lead on the front nine and kept the pressure on.

The other three matches came down to the final hole with James McKee and Sam McGee halving their match with the Mids, while Gary Bullard and Lake Kim earned a point by winning 1-up. The final match of four-ball was a 2-up victory for the Black Knights as Marshall Daniel and Dragon Theam defeated Charlie Musto and David Miccoli. Daniel sunk a big eagle putt on the seventh hole to give Army the 1-up advantage at the team and loomed large in the match.

The Star will be decided on Sunday with the singles matches beginning at 9 AM at the West Point Golf Course.
