Black Knights Clinch North Division Title on Senior Night

WEST POINT, N.Y.- The Army West Point sprint football team defeated Caldwell University 24-13 on Senior Night. With Friday night's win the Black Knights have clinched the North Division of the CSFL for their sixth consecutive title.

How it Happened- The Black Knights came out firing with their opening drive. Junior quarterback Mikal Willeke connected with Traye Carson for a 61-yard touchdown, giving Army a 7-0 lead with 11:51 left in the first quarter. Willeke completed 17 of 28 attempts for 203 yards, and junior Luke Gigliotti finished the night with 10 tackles.

On the following drive, Army struck again extending their lead to 14-0 with Willeke connecting with sophomore Devon Brown for a 17-yard touchdown with 7:14 left in the quarter.

The Black Knights scoring did not stop in the first quarter, with 2:02 left in the second quarter, junior Ryan Connors rushed for two yards into the endzone, again extending their lead to 21-0. Tonight, Connors led the Black Knights with a season high of 114 rushing yards.

In the third quarter, the Cougars answered back with quarterback Frank DeMaio scoring a rushing touchdown with 8:53 left on the clock, making it 21-7. Army answered back with a field goal by Ben Abercrombie extending their lead 24-7.

Army's defense also came out strong holding the Cougars to six plays in their opening drive. In the second quarter junior Ryan Rast sacked Caldwell's Frank DeMaio for a loss of five yards. The Black Knights defense held the Cougars to 158 yards. Senior Brendan Windsor had three tackles, one being a sack for a loss of six yards.Â

Throughout the game, the Black Knights defense continued to pester Caldwell. Junior Christian Dionisio had a forced fumble. Dionisio also finished the game with seven tackles, one being a loss of four yards. Sophomore Bryheem Swanson had an interception with 1:13 left in the fourth quarter. Army held Caldwell to a net total of 92 passing yards.
