Women’s Tennis Kicks off Patriot League Play with Sweep of Lafayette, Holy Cross

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's tennis team opened up its Patriot League schedule with back-to-back wins over Lafayette and Holy Cross on Friday afternoon at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center.
The Black Knights (17-7, 2-0 PL) defeated Lafayette (2-7, 0-1 PL) 4-0 before handing Holy Cross (5-7, 0-2 PL) a loss by the same margin.
Army 4, Lafayette 0
Army made quick work of the Leopards in doubles play, as the tandem of Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans posted a 6-0 win on the second court before Sam Dimaio and Julia Kelly also held their opponents scoreless to secure the early point.
Herremans carried the winning momentum into singles play, picking up a 6-0, 6-2 win at the fifth flight to push the lead to 2-0. Justine Dondonay then put the team on the verge of clinching with a straight-set win at No. 3 singles before MaryJo Pidgeon officially locked up the triumph with a sweep on court six.
The Cadets dominated the Leopards in singles play, as the most points any Leopard scored was two. At the time the match was ended, Stephanie Dolehide, Cooper Jackson and Elizabeth Gilbert had already won their first sets.
Army 4, Holy Cross 0
Once again, the Black Knights had dominant performances in doubles play, outscoring the Leopards 12-0 on the courts that helped the team pick up its 1-0 lead. Gilbert and Paulina Feoli posted a win at the No. 2 spot before Sam Dimaio and Julia Kelly brought the doubles point home with their match on the third court.
Feoli then kicked off singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of her opponent at the fifth flight to extend the home team's lead. Army then received wins from Loureiro (6-0, 6-2) and Caroline Vincent (6-0, 6-1) at No. 6 and 1 singles, respectively, to clinch the match.
Though the match was suspended once the Cadets reached a 4-0 edge, Paola Bou, Carolyn Ahn and Sophie McKenzie were all ahead of the Leopards that they were facing.
What's Next
Army will take on UConn in a non-conference match on Saturday, March 26. The action on the Huskies' home courts is set for a 2 p.m. start.
