BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The third-seeded Army West Point women's tennis team swept No. 6 Colgate, 4-0, on Friday afternoon in the Patriot League Women's Tennis Quarterfinal on the campus of Lehigh.
With their first round win in the books, the Black Knights will now advance to a semifinal match on Saturday, April 23 at 3 p.m. where they will face off against No. 2 Navy.
The Cadets, who previously defeated the Red Raiders 6-1 earlier this season, built their lead early with strong performances in doubles play. The tandem of Paola Bou and Sam DiMaio kicked things off with a 6-0 win on the third court before Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans locked up the 1-0 lead with a triumph at No. 2 doubles.
Jackson carried her momentum into singles play, making quick work of her opponent at the third flight. The freshman blanked her opponent in both sets (6-0, 6-0) to push the advantage to 2-0 Army.
Justine Dondonay was also successful at limiting her opponent's ability to score, as she followed up Jackson's victory with a 6-1, 6-1 result at No. 5 singles. Herremans then clinched the match with a straight-set victory at the sixth flight to keep Army's postseason hopes alive.
