WEST POINT, N.Y. – In its first match of the 2022 spring season at the Malek Tennis Center, the Army West Point women's tennis team defeated Lehigh 5-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Black Knights (19-8, 3-1 PL) were dominant in the match, preventing the Mountain Hawks (5-8, 2-4 PL) from scoring more than four points in any of the sets that were played in the team's first outdoor match at home.
Army controlled the contest out of the gate, quickly picking up the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead. The team of Paige Herremans and Cooper Jackson was first to finish, posting a 6-1 result at No. 2 doubles, before the top duo of Stephanie Dolehide and Caroline Vincent secured the point with a 6-3 triumph.
The Cadets carried the winning momentum into singles play, as Justine Dondonay opened up the action with a 6-1, 6-1 defeated at the fourth flight. Paola Bou's straight-set win at No. 3 singles then put the team on the verge of clinching, which Dolehide officially did with her 6-1, 6-2 win on the top court. As an added bonus, Jackson picked up a 6-3, 6-4 result at the second spot to push the team to its final score of 5-0.
The Black Knights' efforts were additionally bolstered by the Mountain Hawks being forced to default at No. 3 doubles, No.5 singles and No. 6 singles.
