Women’s Tennis Wins at Home, Falls on the Road

WEST POINT, N.Y. -The Army West Point women's tennis team split its forces Friday afternoon. The Black Knights defeated Rider in their home debut, 5-2, while falling on the road to Harvard, 7-0.
How it Happened
Army swept Rider in doubles with the tandem of Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile pulling out a tight 6-4 decision at No. 1 to turn back Rider's duo of Leila Koster and Raquel Bolin. The Black Knights claim 6-2 and 6-3 wins in the second and third doubles spots, respectively.
Kelly and Sabile also won in singles as the Black Knights took four of the six singles matches to put a lid on the victory. Kelly cruised to a 6-0 and 6-3 decision at the No. 3 position, while Sabile was taxed to pull out a 7-6 victory after romping to a 6-2 win in the opening set in the second position.
Rounding out the rest of Army's winners in singles were Ylan Doug (6-1, 6-0) and McKinnley Smith (6-3, 6-3), who rolled to one-sided wins in the fifth and sixth singles spots, respectively. It was the second win of the match for Smith, who teamed with Anna Loureiro to claim victory at No. 3 doubles.
Carolyn Ahn, who combined with Sophie McKenzie (6-3) to win at No. 3 doubles, lost 7-6 in a third-set tiebreaker at the No. 1 singles spot after pulling out a 6-4 victory in the first set. McKenzie also fell 7-6 in fourth singles after forcing the third behind a 6-4 decision in the second set.
In the road loss at Harvard, Army taxed the Crimson in singles competition after losing the point to trail 1-0 after doubles competition. Isabella Brilliant lost 6-4 in both sets at No. 5, while Maria Drobotova at No. 2 and Vennmukiil Mathivanan, No. 6, both suffered 6-4 losses in the deciding second set.
