Women's Basketball Win Third Straight, Hang On Over American, 63-62

West Point, NY —The Army West Point women's basketball team (7-12, 5-4 PL) won its third straight game defeating the American University Eagles (4-16, 3-6 PL) by a score of 63-62 at Christl Arena.
How It Happened
Hope Brown converted on a free throw with less than one second left to break a 62-62 tie and give Army the 63-62 victory.
Senior Sabria Hunter paved the way scoring 18 points and logging 14 rebounds, securing her 13th double-double of the season. Hunter also shot 8-10 from the foul line.
Army jumped out to a 8-0 lead out of the gates, featuring a quick three-point make by Lauren Lithgow. Several possessions later, it was Hope Brown drilling a three-pointer with an assist from Reese Ericson, giving Army a 15-7 lead. As the first quarter winded down, Ericson dished to fellow Freshman Charlotte Richman who splashed a three as the Black Knights took a 22-11 into the second quarter.
Army continued to keep its lead around 10 points for much of the second quarter. Ericson connected on a three-point make with 3:49 to go, giving Army a 33-22 lead. Army took a 37-28 lead into the break.
In the third, American fought back, going on an 11-2 run, as the Eagles drew within one of Army, 42-41 with 3:45 to go in the quarter.
In the fourth, American kept the pressure on Army, tying the game on a jump shot by Ivy Bales. Moments later, Bales struck a three-pointer to give American its first lead of the night, 55-52. Molly Lavin would connect on a three ball and Bales would score a layup and extend its lead over Army to six, 60-54.
Army would get back-to-back three point answers from Hope Brown and Lauren Lithgow to knot the game again at 60 with 2:20 to play.
Army controlled the final possession of the game as Hope Brown was fouled on a three-point shot attempt with less than one second remaining. Brown would give Army the advantage at the line which would prove to be the game sealing bucket.
Bales led the way for American, scoring 16 points on 7-9 shooting from the field, including 2-2 from downtown.
