Army Sweeps at Home, Defeats Marist and Quinnipiac

WEST POINT, N.Y. -The Army West Point women's tennis team defeated Marist and Quinnipiac at Lichtenberg Tennis Center Saturday afternoon. The Black Knights are now 9-2 at home and 12-5 overall.
How it Happened
In the Marist match, Army won the doubles point with Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans bested Jane Bockman and Ellen Zureick in the No. 1 position with a final score of 6-1. At No. 3 Elizabeth Gilbert and Sophie McKenzie defeated Isabella Tonuzi and Andriana Zaphiris 6-1.
In the singles matches, the Black Knights continued to dominate the court.
In the No.4 position, Army's Vennmukiil Mathivanan bested Marist's Ellen Zureick in two sets (6-1, 6-0). In the fifth spot, Paige Herremans defeated Isabella Tonuzi with a 6-4, 6-0 decision. Sophomore Paulina Feoli went up against Andriana Zaphiris in the No. 6 spot. Feoli bested Zaphiris posting a 6-2, 6-2 victory.
In the match against Quinnipiac, Army swept the Bobcats in the doubles match. Cooper Jackson and Paige Herremans defeated Alessia Truden and Kamilla Nella 6-0 in the No. 1 position. In the No. 2 spot, Julia Kelly and Jenna Sabile bested Quinnipiac's Nikole Lisovyy and Jordan Bradley 6-2.
It all came down to the singles matches. Army and Quinnipiac each won three matches.
Cooper Jackson competed against Alessia Truden in two sets (6-3, 6-2). In the second spot, Elizabeth Gilbert faced off against Claire Koscielski. Gilbert won the first set with a score of 6-1. In the second set, Koscielski bested Gilbert 6-2, forcing a third set. Koscielski defeated Gilbert 6-3, putting the Bobcats on the board.
In the third spot, Army's Emma Sy went up against Kamilla Nella. Quinnipiac won the first set 6-3. Sy came back in the second set winning 6-0. Nella defeated Sy in the third set with a final score of 7-5. Quinnipiac tied everything up making it a 2-2 match.
Army's Jenna Sabile went up against Jordan Bradley in the fourth spot. Sabile bested Bradley in two sets (6-4, 6-4). In the fifth spot Ylan Duong faced Vera Sekerina. In the first set, Duong defeated Sekerina 7-5. Doung won the second set with a final score of 6-0. Isabella Brilliant competed against Nikole Lisovyy in the sixth spot. Brilliant won the first set 6-4. Lisovyy won the second set in a 7-6 tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker set, Lisovyy defeated Brilliant 12-10.
