COACHES CORNER
Coach Smith on the men:
I thought we had a top 10 performance in us today and for most of the race we were competing right in that area. We did a nice job early of getting into the race but we didn't sustain our effort very well. We had five guys close to each other through the 5k but then lost contact and faded a little over the last 2 miles and that pushed us back to the 12th place finish. Erick Lara led us today and has emerged as our most consistent performer so far this year.
Coach Smith on the women:
It was a very competitive 45 team race today. Our women got out into the race and fought hard to hold their positions. We got some good performances from some of our plebes and that drove the overall outcome. Louisa and Mikayla were both running 6K for the first time and I was pleased with how they handled the distance and the competitive level of the race. They will continue to improve as they run more races. We finished in the top 10 and although I had expected that to happen it is encouraging that our team is able to meet those expectations in a competitive environment such as this. We are capable of running much better than this so I am encouraged about our prospects for the championship meets that are coming up.
