Golf Leads CIC Cup After Round One

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Led by team captain John Heckel Jr., the Army West Point golf team is in the lead after the first round of the Commander-in-Chief's Cup at Scottsdale National Golf Club in Arizona.
The Black Knights finished the first day of competition with a 1-under score of 431 as a team. Navy is two strokes back, while Air Force is 14 back. John Heckel Jr. is atop the leaderboard after posting an 8-uner 64 through the first 18 holes on Monday.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Heckel Jr.'s round of 64 ties Nick Turner for the program's best single round since 2010.
• He had two eagles and six birdies during his round and was 7-under through his first five holes.
• Heckel Jr. was 5-under at the turn and was 3-under on the back nine.
• Dragon Theam and Josh Kim both shot an ever-par 72 on day one and they are in a tie for fourth place on the individual leaderboard.
• Lake Kim and Tyson Sparks were 2-over on the day with a 74 on the scorecard.
The teams are back out on the course tomorrow morning for the final 18 holes to decide who will take the CIC Cup home.
