Women's Soccer Earns Star for Third Consecutive Year With Historic 4-0 Win Over Navy
October 20, 2024 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team had a historic victory over Navy on Saturday night at Malek Stadium, clinching the star for the third consecutive season.
The 4-0 victory is the largest in program history over the Midshipmen and it is the first three game win streak since Army won the first five matchups of the series (1994-1997).
Grace Pohlidal kicked off the party in the 26th minute with an assist from Cami Silvestro and Brigid Duffy. Just 13 short minutes later, Kaelan Bradley sent a rocket off her left foot into the back of the net to go up 2-0.
That score would hold into halftime as Army would outshoot the Mids a staggering 16-4 and 8-2 on goal in the first 45.
The second half, much like the first half, was all Army. Brigid Duffy made it a 3-0 game in the 59th minute off an assist from Cami Silvestro. Silvestro would log her career-high third assist in the 77th minute finding Hannah Pohlidal for her first career goal, making it a 4-0 lead.
Neither Pohlidal sister had scored a goal in their careers but both scored in the biggest game of the season.
Silvestro's three assists are the most in a game since 2020 when Erynn Johns had three against Colgate.
Sage Strohman earned her 25th career clean sheet, moving into a tie for second most in program history with Sydney Cassalia.
In the end, Army outshot Navy 26-7, 12-3 on goal, en route to the most dominant win over Navy in program history.
This is the first time in program history that the Black Knights swept Air Force and Navy in the same season in back to back years and the fourth time overall (1997, 2004, 2023, 2024).
The Black Knights will close out the season with two road matches against Colgate and Boston U.
