Men’s Rugby Set to Face Walsh
October 25, 2024 | Men's Rugby
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point men's rugby team (5-1) will travel to North Canton, Ohio, to take on the Walsh Cavaliers (2-4) in a Rugby East matchup.
The Black Knights are coming off a thrilling 25-21 victory over St. Bonaventure, secured with a last-minute try under the lights. The Cavaliers also recently faced the Bonnies, narrowly losing 11-10.
Head Coach Matthew Sherman says, "We're looking forward to another difficult road test against a good and very physical and abrasive Walsh University team. Despite a few critical moments that hurt us, we felt our performance last week was another step forward in our seasons journey, and our focus Saturday is another step upward in that journey. We will need to get that right to earn victory and are determined to do so."
Both Army and Walsh share another common opponent this season—the Naval Academy, where both teams were defeated by the Midshipmen.
This marks the first time in program history that the Black Knights will play in Ohio.
Senior vice captain Nate Gould shared his thoughts on the upcoming trip: "It's going to be a long day of travel, but we're feeling prepared and excited for the matchup. We know Walsh is a physical team with a lot of skill. We're looking forward to the challenge."
Kolbe Schrichte echoed the sentiment, adding, "We're extremely excited for the opportunity to play Walsh on the road. This is a great challenge, and it allows us to showcase our best against a physical opponent."
Meanwhile, Howie Heller continues to be a standout performer for the Black Knights. He remains in the top five in Rugby East in total points, having scored 36 so far this season.
The match is scheduled for a 12:00 PM kickoff. Fans can catch the action live following this link.
