Women’s Basketball Holds Off Oakland

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's basketball team (3-1) secured a thrilling 58-54 victory over Oakland (1-2) in a close, down-to-the-wire matchup.
Fiona Hastick led the Black Knights' offense, scoring 13 points, followed closely by Soleil Montrose with 12 points, shooting a career-best .566 from the field. Taylor Wilson was a force on the boards, pulling down a career-high eight rebounds for the sophomore.
Army struck first when Taylor Wilson drew a shooting foul less than 30 seconds into the game, bringing the score to 1-0. Following a brief scoring drought, Oakland gained a lead with a three-pointer, but Wilson quickly answered with a powerful move in the paint to tie the game. The Black Knights then went on a 6-1 run before Oakland responded with a three-pointer. Montrose answered right back, but Oakland closed the first quarter with a seven-point streak, giving Army a narrow 15-14 lead going into the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Oakland initially regained the lead, but Army responded with back-to-back baskets. Limiting Oakland to just four points for the rest of the quarter, the Black Knights closed the half on a high note, entering the locker room up 28-20.
The Golden Bears came out strong in the third quarter, quickly reducing Army's lead to four. After a brief back-and-forth, Oakland tied the game at 30-30 with five minutes left. The Black Knights then answered with a 6-0 run. Oakland hit a three-pointer to cut the deficit, but Army surged ahead, finishing the third quarter with a 44-35 lead.
In the final quarter, both teams traded baskets before Oakland went on a 6-0 run, closing the gap to three points with seven minutes to play. Montrose's twelfth point extended Army's lead, but Oakland stayed close, pulling within one with just 35 seconds left. The Black Knights held firm as Camryn Tade sank clutch free throws to seal the 58-54 victory.
