How It Happened
The Saints scored first, but Army quickly matched, and the teams were tied at 4-4 early in the game. A foul on T. Wilson led to two successful free throws, giving Army their first lead with six minutes left in the first quarter—a lead they would maintain throughout the game.
With the score at 6-5, Hardy's successful free throws sparked an 8-3 Army run, ending the first quarter ahead 16-8. Hardy kept the momentum going with a layup at the start of the second quarter, but Siena countered with a three-pointer to keep within reach. Hastick answered with a jumper to push Army's lead back to nine.
The Saints stayed in the game, managing to close the gap to five after scoring off an Army turnover. Following a media timeout, the teams traded baskets, with Army maintaining a lead of no more than seven points. Another foul on T. Wilson resulted in two made free throws, followed by back-to-back scores from Tade, extending Army's lead to 31-21. Army held a 34-28 advantage going into halftime.
The Black Knights maintained control in the second half, with Soilel Montrose's jumper pushing the lead back to double digits. The Saints' seven fouls in the quarter gave Army ample free throw opportunities, accounting for eight of their 12 points in the third quarter.
Entering the final quarter with a 46-36 lead, Hardy scored two driving layups to start things off. Siena briefly cut the deficit to single digits with a fast break layup, but Hardy responded with a three-pointer to extend the lead to 12. With three minutes remaining and Army up 58-49, Ericson's three-pointer sealed the game, giving the Black Knights a comfortable double-digit lead to close out their 66-55 victory.
