Gymnastics Edges William & Mary and Springfield on Senior Day

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point gymnastics picked up victories over William & Mary and Springfield in a tri-meet for senior day from the Gross Center. Army's 393.400 bested a 393.375 mark from Springfield and 387.250 team score from William & Mary.

Army honored its five Firsties before the meet, marking the final home meet for Connor Cavanagh, Benjamin Guerrieri, Steven Manolakis, Franco Peirano and Jackson Pophal as part of Senior Day festivities.
Trailing the Pride by 12.750 with the lone routine left being Zachary Perez on high bar, the junior answered the call with a 12.800 to give the Black Knights the win by the thinnest of margins.Â
The Black Knights were led by a one-two-three finish on pommel horse with Maddox Pabellon taking first with a 13.850. Gabe Almeida (13.350) and Noah Duran (13.000) placed second and third, respectively as Army won the event by 4.050 as a team with its 65.350.Â
Jaden Blank led Army to start in the floor exercise, registering a 13.800 to take third-place while Max Rubin (13.600) and Nick Lester (13.500) also helped compile a season-high team score of 67.550 in the event. Army's 62.350 on still rings was led by Blaze Kennedy's (12.900) which saw him fourth-best at the meet.
Lester continued his strong day on vault, logging a 14.450 to land in second-place, as Steven Manolakis (5th, 14.200) and Johnathan Pinc (6th, 14.150) also contributed high marks to Army's eventual 69.750 in the event. Army put three in the top-six once again on parallel bars for a 65.500, paced by Jacob Brenner's 13.300 for a bronze finish. Duran landed just behind in fourth (13.250) while Kennedy climbed to sixth with his 13.200 mark.
Coming down to the wire, Blank's 12.750 on high bar put Army in position in the event to claim the tri-meet victory, coming down to Zachary Perez as the Black Knights trailed by 12.750. With the meet decided in his routine, Perez delivered in front of the home crowd with a 12.800 to gve Army the win by the thinnest possible margin. Perez's mark placed him fifth overall in the event.Â
Army moved to 3-0 in the conference with the win, and will close out the regular season next Saturday at Springfield, with the meet set to begin at 1:00 p.m.
