Men's Tennis Begins Conference Play 3-0

WEST POINT, NY - Army West Point men's tennis (10-10, 3-0 Patriot League) won its first three Patriot League contests this past weekend, taking down Holy Cross (2-7, 1-3 Patriot League), Loyola Maryland (5-8, 1-1 Patriot League) and Lafayette (6-9, 0-2 Patriot League) from Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The three wins comes after suffering a midweek defeat to NJIT (13-3), as the Black Knights now sit atop the Patriot League standings at 3-0.
The Black Knights began the week with a midweek bout hosting No. 67 NJIT. After the Highlanders took the doubles point, Army battled back with Samuel Haikal (6-2, 2-6, 6-2) and Alan Ton (7-5, 6-1) picking up singles victories to eventually make it 3-2 in favor of the road side. However, the Highlanders were able to clinch the match with a third single win to post an eventual 4-2 win against the Black Knights.
Returning for the conference opener on Friday against Holy Cross, Army cruised to the doubles point with Ton and Marcus Sebastian winning 6-4 on court one while Jack Hanna and Daniel Choi won 6-3 at flight to put the Black Knights ahead. Jake Huarte began his perfect weekend with a flight two win (6-0, 6-1), as Daniel Zhou boasted a flight one triumph (6-4, 6-4). The match was the clinched with a final scoreline of 4-1 through Vishnu Bodavula, who tabbed a (6-4, 7-5) win at flight three.
Looking to keep its perfect conference mark intact, Army welcomed Loyola on Sunday morning for the first of two on the day. Huarte and Bodavula got a big win at court one to begin doubles, as Haikal and Michael Rooney then secured the pivotal doubles point as both duos saw a 6-3 victory. Ton had a quick (6-0, 6-1) victory at flight six to start for Army, as Huarte continued his dominance at flight two with a (6-3, 6-2) win. A 4-0 shutout was then clinched through Sebastian, who registered a flight five victory of 7-5, 6-1.
With a 3-0 weekend in the Patriot League in mind, Army once again collected the doubles point against Lafayette. Huarte and Rooney had a 6-0 win at flight two while Bodavula teamed up with Preston Achter for a 6-2 win on court three. Huarte then cruised to a (6-1, 6-1) singles win to improve to 3-0 on the weekend at flight two, as Daniel Choi won on court six by a score of (6-1, 6-0). A consecutive 4-0 sweep was then clinched by Haikal on court three with a 6-2, 7-5 triumph.
