WEST POINT, N.Y. – Head coach Mark West announced the 2024 Army West Point Sprint Football schedule Monday morning. The schedule features four home games and one new opponent. This season the Black Knights will be gunning for their 36th Collegiate Sprint Football League Championship.
"Losing the championship game last year was certainly not how we envisioned finishing our 2023 season, especially after going undefeated during the regular season," Coach West said. "We lost a great group of seniors, but the returning underclassmen put in a lot of hard work this offseason to get stronger, faster, and better prepared for the 2024 season. They are doing some great Army training this summer and I am very proud of all they do to prepare to be the next generation of leaders for our nation. We are super-excited for mid-August to get here so we can get back to having fun playing the great game of football."
For the first time in a normal regular season (2020 had one game against Navy), the Black Knights will not face Penn. The two have played every year since 1957 besides 2020. Penn is the last team not named Navy to beat the Black Knights since 2010 (2016, 14-9).
The 2024 slate kicks off with a trip to Walsh on Sept. 6 at 4pm but the CSFL season starts on Sept. 27 at home against Chestnut Hill at 7pm at Shea Stadium. This will be the first time Army plays Chestnut Hill since 2018. The Cadets are 3-0 all time against the Griffins with a combined score of 135-19.
The following Friday the Black Knights head to Annapolis for their annual Star Game presented by USAA. Last season Army brought home the star in a thrilling 10-3 victory over the Midshipmen at Michie Stadium. The Mids lead the all time series 49-39-1 with a combined score of 1553-1515.
The road trip continues with a bout against St. Thomas Aquinas on Oct. 11 at 7pm. Army is 5-0 against the Spartans all time with a 43-0 win last season. In their series history, the Black Knights have outscored the Spartans 228-16, never giving up more than nine points in a single game.
Army returns home to Shea Stadium on Oct. 18 for a date with Caldwell, all time, Army is 4-0 against the Cougars with a combined score of 101-28 including a five overtime game in 2021 with a final score of 4-2.
Mansfield comes to West Point the following week at 1pm on Oct. 26. Army is 13-0 against them all time for a combined score 640-103.
Cornell makes it three straight home games for Army when the two long time rivals faceoff on Nov. 1 at 7pm. The Black Knights are 64-16 against the Big Red all time with a combined score of 2131-704.
Army closes the regular season with a matchup against the newest team in the CSFL, Malloy. The Black Knights will travel to the first year foe on Nov. 8 at 7pm.
Among the teams on the schedule, Army is a combined 128-65-1, with all 65 losses and the tie coming against Navy or Cornell. The Black Knights are outpacing these opponents all time 4750-2423 for an average score of 24.5-12.5. The dominance in the league truly shows when you look at the newer opponents on Army's schedule. The Black Knights sit with a perfect 25-0 record and a combined score of 1104-166 for an average score of 44.2-6.6 against 2024 opponents other than Navy and Cornell.
