Women's Soccer Rolls to 3-0 Victory Over Manhattan
August 18, 2024 | Women's Soccer
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point women's soccer team picked up a decisive 3-0 win over Manhattan on Sunday afternoon at Malek Stadium.
The win saw two career firsts, with Bella Cooke and Sabrina Rogers each scoring their first goal. It also marked the 20th clean sheet of Sage Strohman's career, putting her alone for fourth most in program history.
The first 10 minutes both teams were feeling each other out until Army laid on the gas for the remainder of the half. Despite not scoring, the Black Knights took 11 shots in the first half. Strohman made all three of her saves in the first 45, needing to make two in the span of five seconds to keeper the Jaspers off the board.
The second half is where things opened up for Army. After Elizabeth Oberhaus got fouled just short of midfield, Keira Vesy sent in a beautiful free kick that found Cooke's head and the back of the net for the first Army goal of the season in the 66th minute.
Nine minutes later Oberhaus was fouled yet again, this time in the box and the Black Knights were awarded a penalty kick. Kaelan Bradley stepped to the spot and remained perfect in her career to make it a 2-0 game. Bradley is now 6-6 when taking a penalty.
Eight minutes after that coming off a great cross by Cami Silvestro, Jordan Follenweider passed it to Bradley who reversed field and there was Rogers in the perfect spot on the back post to give Army a commanding 3-0 lead with just seven minutes to go.
The game would end at 3-0 to give Army its first win of the season. They were on the front foot for the entirety of the game, out shooting the Jaspers 24-5 with shots on frame being 8-3. After not having a corner kick against Wake Forest or in the first half today, the Black Knights were able to force five of them in the second half, while not giving up a single one of their own.
Next up for the Black Knights is a Thursday matinee against UMass at 3pm at Malek Stadium.
