Heckel Jr. Paces Golf with Top-10 Finish at Folds of Honor Collegiate

GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Team captain John Heckel Jr. finished in the top 10 at the Folds of Honor Collegiate at American Dunes Golf Club in the first tournament of the season for the Army West Point golf team.
The Black Knights concluded the three-day tournament in 13th place with a team score of 912 (+60). Alabama won the Folds of Honor Collegiate, combining to finish 12-under par. The Crimson Tide's Dominic Clemons edged out Tommy Morrison of Texas by one stroke to earn the individual title at 9-under par, shooting in the negative numbers every round.
TOURNAMENT NOTES
• Army was 17-over as a team on the final day of the tournament.
• Heckel Jr. finished 1-over par for the tournament and was 3-under on the final 36 holes and had back-to-back birdies on 17 and 18 to end today's round.
• He went 3-under on the final 15 holes on Wednesday and had 12 birdies over the three days.
• Heckel Jr. was the top non-Power 4 player on the leaderboard and top service academy finisher among a deep field at American Dunes.
• Rookie Tyson Sparks had a good showing on the final day, carding a 3-over 74.
• He was Army's second highest finisher at 12-over par and was 4-over in his final 36 holes.
• Sparks added seven birdies in his first collegiate tournament as a member of the Black Knights.
The Black Knights return to action on Sept. 21-22 at the Ryan T. Lee Memorial Tournament at Shuttle Meadow Country Club in Berlin, Conn.
