Rifle Suffers Pair of Losses in Home Opener
October 26, 2025 | Rifle
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army West Point rifle team suffered a pair of losses over the weekend, hosting Nebraska and Kentucky in its home opener at Tronsrue Marksmanship Center.
The undefeated Huskers, ranked No. 6 nationally, edged the No. 3 Wildcats (4749–4747) and topped the No. 14 Black Knights (4685) to claim top honors. Nebraska posted the top smallbore score (2364) and finished just one point behind Kentucky in air rifle (2385) en route to the sweep, improving to 7-0 after the weekend.
Army and Kentucky, both members of the Great America Rifle Conference (GARC), were competing in their conference opener.
Freshman Hannah Dufresne and sophomore Addison Antwiler led the way for the Black Knights, finishing eighth and 10th, respectively, in aggregate scoring. Dufresne posted an 1177, while Antwiler fired an 1172.
In smallbore, Antwiler and Dufresne were Army's top finishers, placing seventh and eighth, respectively, with Antwiler edging Dufresne by one point (587). Brenna Green and Chris Jennings followed in 11th and 12th after posting identical 582s, with Green earning the higher position on center shots (30–25).
Dufresne paced Army in air rifle, placing 13th with a 591. Jennings was 17th (590), followed by Antwiler, whose 585 earned 20th place.
"Overall, the match was a struggle," said Army head coach Leighton Dempster. "We had a lot of small wins and individual personal bests, but we missed the mark in air rifle (2348). Our 2337 in smallbore is good for us—two points below our program record—where we had personal bests from Addison (Antwiler) with a 587 and Hannah (Dufresne) at 586 to lead the team.
"Our focus has been intensity, and it showed," Dempster added. "Better kneeling performances all around, and prone is more in line with what we're looking for. Air rifle continues to challenge us, but we're determined to put in the work to perform up to our potential."
Army is back in action this weekend, competing in the President's Trophy Match hosted by Navy on Saturday, followed by a dual match against Air Force on Sunday.
