Men’s Rugby Soars to Win at Rival Air Force

USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – One evening before football's Commander-in-Chief's Trophy showdown on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Army West Point men's rugby stormed out to a quick and substantial lead, pulling away for a 52-7 win in the shadows of the cadet chapel renovation.

Army moved to 6-1 overall this year following the non-conference win. Notably, the Black Knights were 6-for-8 overall on conversion attempts, split between Kolbet Schrichte and Richard Corbett III.

"I thought our boys showed up with the right mentality despite a short week and long travel, and also played with strong discipline. Overall, I thought it was a very positive performance from a young group and a step forward on our season's journey," said head coach Matt Sherman.

Featuring a fresh starting XV, freshman John Benson opened the scoring inside five minutes, finding the try zone and giving way to Schrichte's first conversion of the season to put Army up 7-0.

After Luke Lentfer added a try for Army, Nick Trout followed by finding the try zone in the 31st minute, and Corbett added the first of his 11 total points with a try three minutes before the break.

Army picked up right where they left off as the second half got underway. Keegan Lynch scored less than four minutes after halftime, followed by Schrichte's third conversion of the fixture.

Porter Kuebler found paydirt less than one minute later, ahead of the first of Corbett's three conversions.

Phil Roll and Max Welling scored in the 61' and 76' to send the Army traveling fan contingent away on a happy note before Air Force broke the shutout with four minutes remaining in the match.
