ST. CHARLES, Mo. – Army West Point women's rugby hit the road on Friday for a National Intercollegiate Rugby Association (NIRA) semifinal matchup against Lindenwood. The Black Knights built up a 14-12 lead through the first half before the Lions took control of the momentum and claimed a 29-22 win on their home pitch.
Army (6-3) got off to a strong start, as Cassidy Ball opened the scoring with her team-best 11th try of the season with 27:54 left in the opening half. Alissa Eisenhart was successful on the conversion to give Army a 7-0 lead.
Five minutes later Army doubled its lead as Taimane Fiatoa scored with 22:58 left, and after a successful conversion by Eisenhart, the Black Knights found themselves up 14-0. Lindenwood wasn't going to go down easily though, as the Lions scored 12 unanswered points to close the half down by just two.
The second half was a different story than the opening 40 minutes, as Lindenwood scored just under 10 minutes into the half to take a 17-14 lead. Eisenhart quickly knotted things back up at 17-17 after a successful penalty kick with 25 minutes to play.
The Lions, however, took control of the game from here on out by scoring the next 12 points to take a commanding 29-17 lead with less than 15 minutes to play.
Army added a try by Alyssa Davis with under a minute to play to make it 29-22. Lindenwood wore down Army in the second half, and will advance to the NIRA Championship game next Saturday at Harvard.
