BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Army West Point volleyball (16-7, 10-4) saw its first road loss since October 3 on Friday, falling to the Lehigh University Mountain Hawks (11-12, 5-9), 0-3
With the loss, the Black Knights split the regular-season series against the Mountain Hawks. Earlier in the season, the Black Knights earned a 3-1 win over the Mountain Hawks.
Lehigh went on to sweep Army in straight sets, 21-25, 14-25 and 23-25.
Match Recap
Army came out battling against Lehigh but fell behind early as the Mountain Hawks strung together a series of aces and kills to take control.
Despite the slow start, Army began finding rhythm behind kills from Kennedy Jones and Mackenzie Lynch, along with steady setting from Naomi Chinchar and Juliette Myrick.
Chloe Murakami provided a spark offensively, tallying multiple kills midway through the set to keep Army within striking distance. Corrine Blackburn contributed key defensive plays at the net, slowing Lehigh's momentum.
However, despite a late push highlighted by a service ace from Drew Brown and a kill from Murakami, Army couldn't complete the comeback and dropped the first set 25–21.
Lehigh again jumped out to an early lead in the second set, using aggressive serving to pressure Army's first contact.
Army showed moments of strong offense, including several kills from Michelle Parker and Murakami, who continued to pace the attack.
Lynch and Jones added timely swings, while Myrick and Chinchar distributed the ball effectively to keep Lehigh's defense guessing. Despite Army's best efforts, Lehigh maintained steady control and pulled away to take the second set 25–14.
Army responded with more energy in the third set, matching Lehigh point for point through much of the frame.
Lynch came alive offensively, notching several kills early and continuing to be a go-to option on the outside. Murakami remained consistent, both attacking and serving, while Myrick connected well with her hitters to spread out Army's offense.
Kennedy Jones provided clutch swings late in the set to pull Army within one at 23–24, but Lehigh managed to close it out on a block to seal the 25–23 set win and complete the sweep.
