Wrestling Travels to Indiana for Dual Saturday
December 12, 2025 | Wrestling
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Army West Point wrestling will face its third Big Ten Conference opponent in as many dual matches to open the 2025-26 season on Saturday, with a showdown at the Indiana Hoosiers set for 2:00 p.m.
TrackWrestling will provide live scores and updates, with the match being streamed on B1G+.
Last time out—at home vs. Wisconsin December 6—the Black Knights battled, but fell short, 24-12.
The Black Knights claimed four of the 10 bouts Saturday, and went into the intermission with the team scored tied 9-9 after winning three of the opening five matches. However, a bonus point loss at 197 lbs put the dual mathematically out of reach for Army.
At 133 lbs, Ethan Berginc tied the match with a takedown late in the third period to put the Christl faithful on its feet in the team's first home dual in 2025-26. The junior then followed in overtime with a takedown to complete the sudden victory over Wisconsin's Zan Fuggit—ranked No. 3 in the InterMat poll. But the arguable highlight for Army came in the waning moments at 157 lbs. Down 10-4 in the closing seconds, Joseph Antonio secured a reversal of Luke Mechler before collecting four near-fall points to steal a 10-8 decision and tie the dual at nine.
On November 23, the Black Knights competed in the Black Knight Invite, the second of back-to-back tournaments at Christl Arena. Braden Basile won the 141 lb tournament title and was one of 15 Black Knight athletes to place.
Basile's 141 lb title bout came against top-seeded Aaron Nagao of Penn State. While the Nittany Lion pulled ahead 3-0 early in the match, an injury suffered early in the second period forced Nagao to withdraw, handing the title to Basile by default.
Basile had previously won three matches to earn a spot in the finals, including an 11-3 major decision over Cael Nasdeo—also of Penn State—in the semifinals. Not counting pool competitions at the Journeyman Collegiate Classic November 9, Army wrestlers have now combined for nine tournament titles to date this year.
PSU came away with the team title, with 197 total points. Army finished third with 117.5 points, just one point behind second place Columbia.
Of note, so far in 2025-26, Army's wrestlers have combined to wrestle more individual matches vs. Division I opponents than any other Division I program, with that figure currently standing at 403. That stat was first reported by Jason Bryant and Justin Basch.
