Track and Field Shines Against Tough Competition at Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. — The Army West Point Track & Field team competed in their second meet of the outdoor season at the Aztec Invitational, posting several event victories and podium finishes against a competitive field.
The field competing at the Aztec Invitational included host San Diego State, Washington State, Brigham Young, San Diego and UC San Diego, along with two NCAA Div. II schools (Cal State San Marcos and Point Loma Nazarene) and two NCAA Div. III programs (Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Middlebury),
The Black Knights showcased their depth in the 800m and 1500m races, securing multiple top finishes.
Kasen Jeitz took home the men's 800m title (1:50.38), while teammate Ammon Smith placed third (1:51.58). On the women's side, Mikayla Cheney finished runner-up in the 800m (2:08.71), closely followed by Shye Chambers in third (2:08.73) and Hannah Andrews in fourth (2:12.15). Cheney also shined in the 1500m, claiming first place (4:19.33), with Charlotte Richman finishing third (4:20.97).
The Army West Point relay squads put in solid performances.
The men's 4x100m relay team of Owen Lang, Joshua Duncan, Jaxon Hammond and Chad Dohl secured a third-place finish (41.35), while the women's 4x100m relay team of Ever Elegon, Chadon Foreman, Faith Kibbe and Olivia Reed placed fourth (47.14).
In the hurdles, Austin Hernandez delivered a strong performance in the 110m hurdles, placing fifth (15.15). On the women's side, Zoe Eggleston had a standout race in the 400m hurdles, finishing fourth (1:04.78), while Brooke Munoz followed in seventh (1:06.94).
The men's 100m dash saw Chad Dohl secure a fifth-place finish (10.53), with Jaxon Hammond close behind in 10th (10.70). On the women's side, Olivia Reed was Army's top finisher, placing 15th in the 100m (12.18). In the 200m, Dohl and Lang both finished in the top 10, placing seventh (21.40) and eighth (21.64), respectively.
Army's distance team had another impressive outing, led by Anthony Diaz in the men's 5000m, who took second place (14:12.89), while Maximus Haynia came in third (14:32.36) and Isaac Morris, who finished in fourth (14:35.56), followed close behind. In the women's 5000m, Louisa Diamond clocked 16:22.32 to finish second overall.
In the steeplechase, Claire Lewis placed third (10:31.33) for the women, while Parker Harris finished third in the men's race (9:40.58).
The Black Knights were a force in the throwing events, picking up multiple event victories.
Emily Fink continued her dominance in the women's hammer throw, winning with a mark of 63.97m, followed by teammate Kiana Emerson (2nd, 51.05m). Sophia Dykstra won the women's discus (49.32m), leading an Army sweep as Jordan Hecht (2nd, 46.39m) and Olivia Hancock (3rd, 45.57m) rounded out the podium.
On the men's side, Robby Manse captured two victories, taking first in both the shot put (17.73m) and hammer throw (60.12m). In the javelin, Collin Torres placed third (62.94m), while Alexah Zaczynski took third in the women's competition (43.27m).
The Black Knights return to the east coast as they head to West Long Branch, New Jersey for the Monmouth Opener. The meet will begin Friday, March 28 and go through Saturday, March 29.
