Heckel Jr. Leads at Patriot League Championship

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Led by the first-round leader John Heckel Jr., the Army West Point golf team currently sits second on the leaderboard after shooting 1-over as team at the Patriot League Championship on Friday.
The Black Knights finished day one at the Bucknell Golf Club with a team score of 281 (+1). Loyola has the team lead after the first round after shooting 1-under as a team. Heckel Jr., Army's team captain, is atop the individual leaderboard after a 3-under 67 on the par 70 course. with five birdies and an eagle on the third hole.
TOURNAMENT NOTES:
• Heckel Jr. dropped five birdies on the day and had an eagle on the third hole.
• Senior Dragon Theam was Army's second player with an under par round on Friday as he posted a 1-under 69 and he sits in a tie for fourth on the leaderboard.
• Theam had five birdies on the day and also was 1-under on the front nine to get his round off to a great start.
• Rookie Griffin Garvin made an impact in his first league championship round with a 2-over 72, while classmate Tyson Sparks carded a 3-over 73 on the first day.
The Black Knights will start their tee times at 11 AM on Saturday morning in the second round of the Patriot League Championship at Bucknell.
