Golf Finishes Third at Patriot League Championship

Final Results

LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Army West Point golf team and the field at the Patriot League Championship final round faced windy conditions on Sunday and the Black Knights finished third on the leaderboard at 14-over for the tournament.

The Black Knights shot 17-over as a team on the final day to slip to third with Loyola winning the league title by one stroke over Holy Cross. Nolan Schuermann of the Crusaders won the individual title by winning the first playoff hole. Army team captain John Heckel Jr. was selected the Most Outstanding Golfer for the year as voted on by the coaches.

TOURNAMENT NOTES:
• John Heckel Jr. and Griffin Garvin were named Second Team All-Patriot League after finishing in the Top 10.
• Heckel Jr. shot 1-over for the tournament and was alone in 7th and recorded a 3-over 73 on the final day.
• Garvin had another even par round of 70 on Sunday facing the tough conditions and ended up in a tie for 8th on the leaderboard.
• Garvin becomes the first rookie to earn postseason honors from the Patriot League since Heckel Jr. was the Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-Patriot League.
