April 28, 2025 | Softball
BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Freshman outfielder Breanna Coonfare received her first weekly honor from the Patriot League on Monday.
Breanna Coonfare was named this week's Patriot League Rookie of the Week, becoming the third Black Knight to receive the honor this season, along with Annie Christiana and Maisi Sigler.
Coonfare wins the honor after recording six RBIs over the weekend to help the Black Knights sweep Lafayette.
The freshman played a key role as a pinch hitter and starter to help Army West Point sweep Lafayette, scoring a run and driving in six RBIs across the series.
She also delivered a game-winning double in extra innings of game two to clinch the series and added a two-RBI single in the finale to help Army West Point complete the sweep over the Leopards.
Breanna Coonfare also hit a key seventh-inning single in the series opener to fuel the Black Knights' seven-run win and helped the Army West Point outscore Lafayette, 19-9, on the weekend.
Alongside Coonfare winning the honor, Annie Christina and Breanna Izzo both were named as honorable mentions for the weekly awards.
Christiana led the Black Knights' hitting in the weekend sweep at Lafayette, going 6-for-12 at the plate with two runs, three RBIs and a perfect 4-for-4 performance in the outfield. She played a key role in Saturday's win, recording an RBI single and scoring a run in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Izzo led the pitching unit with two wins and a save while allowing just one earned run and striking out five against 20 batters faced to help the Black Knights sweep Lafayette and stay atop the Patriot League standings.
Coonfare and the rest of the Black Knights hope to clinch the Patriot League regular season championship over the weekend in West Point as they host the Colgate Raiders.
The series begins with a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday and the final game being Sunday also at 12 p.m., with the series streaming live on ESPN+.
