April 05, 2025 | Men's Rugby
WEST POINT, N.Y. – Army West Point Men's Rugby kept its season alive with a 25-13 win over fellow Rugby East member Mount St. Mary's in the CRAA Playoffs Round of 16 match Saturday.
In front of a home crowd at Anderson Rugby Complex, the Black Knights never trailed.
The Black Knights advance to the CRAA Playoff Quarterfinals with the win.
A Howard Heller penalty put Army on the board first, just four minutes into the fixture. After the Mountaineers tied the contest on a penalty seven minutes later, the Black Knights took the lead for good at the 34-minute mark thanks to a Dylan Liskey try. Another try—this one by Jacob Bottarini—at the first half gun gave Army a 13-3 lead at halftime.
The Mount got within five points with a try at the 63-minute mark, but were never closer than that, after Heller recorded both a try and conversion five minutes later. His 10 total points led the squad Saturday.
Matt Doyle logged a try at 72:30 to make it 25-8, before The Mount added late points in the closing moments.
Cadet's Corner
"I'm incredibly proud of the brothers today. We gave 100% in every facet of the game. We couldn't have done it without all 68 guys on the team as well as the support from our families and friends. We're excited to summit our new best next Saturday," said Doyle.
"Super proud of the boys and how we fought through adversity over the course of the match. We are excited for another week of work and look forward to the battle ahead," said Isaac Gamboa.
"A great way to start the playoffs with new lessons to learn and improve this upcoming week. Loved the heart and discipline we played with today," said Liskey.
