Nathan Davis Sets Program Record in 3000m Steeplechase at NCAA Championships
June 11, 2025 | Men's Track and Field
EUGENE, Ore. — Army Track and Field's Nathan Davis finished his junior season on a strong note, finishing with a personal best and in the Top 14 in the 3000m Steeplechase at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The East Greenbush, N.Y. native finished with a final time of 8:37.62 in the event. The mark not only set a new personal best for Davis but also set a new Army Men's Track and Field program record in the event.
Davis went on to finish sixth in his heat and 14th overall with his time in the 3000m steeplechase, falling just short in qualifying for the finals in the event, with the meet taking the top five marks in the heat, followed by the top two marks overall to the finals on Friday.
With the finish in today's semifinal round, Nathan was given Second Team All-American honors, the first time in his career Davis has been named to the second team in his track and field career.
Nathan Davis also finishes his junior season as the program record holder in the 3000m steeplechase, the Patriot League Champion in the 3000m steeplechase, and on the Patriot League All-Academic Team.
Davis adds these honors to his cross-country accomplishments from the 2024 season, where he qualified for the NCAA National Meet and earned the Patriot League Scholar Athlete of the Year.
Hear From Coach Smith:
Nathan Davis ('26) ran the best 3000m steeplechase race in Academy history here in Eugene, Oregon today. His time of 8:37.62 broke his own school record set two weeks ago in Jacksonville, Florida, at the East Regional First Round He finished sixth in the first semifinal heat of the NCAA championships and then waited to see if he could advance to the NCAA final as a time qualifier. The top 5 in each semifinal and the next two fastest times would advance to the final on Friday. The second semifinal heat was a much faster race and the first eight finishers ran faster than Nathan: thus ending his season and his hopes of making the NCAA final. He ended up 14th in the 24-man field and with that finish earned Second Team All-American honors. He was disappointed in not being able to advance but understands that he needs to get better to have a different outcome. The meet continues tomorrow with the NCAA women's championship events including 2LT Emily Fink ('25) in the hammer throw.
